Companies that have moved their domains in December 2011 or January 2012 due to GoDaddy’s support of SOPA include the following:

1. MLG Network News moved over 100 domains to Namecheap. There were no reported problems with the transfer.

2. Fiddlerstudios.com moved their domain to Nefirms. There were no reported problems.

3. Nutmeg.com moved to Namecheap and other providers. There were no reported problems.

4. Canadiantechbloggers.com moved their domain in December 2011 to Name.com. They reported no problems.

5. Robinadr.com moved to NearlyFreeSpeech in December 2011. There were no reported problems.

6. TwitchTV moved to Namecheap. There were no reported problems.

7. Imgur moved to Namecheap. There were no reported problems.

8. Sonysuit moved to Name.com. There were no reported problems.

9. Groveshark moved to Namecheap. There were no reported problems.

10. XBMC moved to a non-US entity that was not named. There were no reported problems.

Wikipedia and Cheezburger are two of the top Internet sites reported they would be moving their domains away from GoDaddy. They did not, however, follow through and their domains are still registered with GoDaddy.

It appears that reported problems with domain name transfers, which does not give specific domain names to verify this information, is mainly related to Namecheap. They have complained that GoDaddy has delayed transfers to them to make it more difficult for clients to leave them. GoDaddy’s response was that there was a problem with Namecheap’s domain registration access.

After the mass exodus of domains from their servers, GoDaddy withdrew their support of SOPA. GoDaddy’s CEO reportedly stated: “It’s very important that all Internet stakeholders work together on this. Getting it right is worth the wait. Go Daddy will support it when and if the Internet community supports it.” In addition, CNET reports that GoDaddy took down their blog that outlined their support of SOPA. In addition, the SOPA bill has been defeated and Congress will not be pursuing the option any further. Although there is sure to be another attempt at a similar bill, the Internet has shown through this circumstance the power of its collective efforts.
